Saturday was another landmark event as Senator Dino Melaye’s support for youth and sports development especially at the grassroots was witnessed at the Community High School, Ayetoro Gbede and St Monica’s College, Kabba inter house athletics competitions.
Rev. Fr. Donatus Ogunleye, while speaking with this reporter at St Monica’s College venue, expressed great delight with the presentation and donations done by the Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye.
He said the gesture was in line with the college’s new plan to revamp sport.
The principal, Mrs Mary Olowokere thanked Senator Dino Melaye, prayed for God’s favour and guidance in all his endeavours.
Amongst items donates to the schools are: complete set of football kits that include a set of jerseys, football boots, hose, chin guard and anklets, javelin and discus.
The senator, through his representative at Community High School Ayetoro Gbede, Mr Apara, said, “this is just a tip of the iceberg as the senator has lined up a lot of program that would help to improve sports at the grassroots”.
Mr. Gideon Ayodele, the Special Assistant on Media to the Senator confirmed that within the next one week, about 79 schools would have benefited from the ongoing sport initiative.
He encouraged other stakeholders and corporate bodies to also contribute their various quotas towards grassroots sports development as government alone can not do it.
