Kogi Speaker Admonishes Residents To Stay Safe From COVID-19 By Femi Balogun – Lokoja

As the spread of the deadly coronavirus is yet to abate in Nigeria and looking at the genuine efforts been put in place to halt it’s continuous spread by government at all levels, residents of Kogi State have been urged to compliment government’s efforts by staying safe and assisting the underprivileged and vulnerable groups at a critical time as this.

The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Matthew Kolawole gave the admonition in a press statement issued and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Femi Olugbemi in Lokoja on Wednesday, pointed out government’s efforts at alleviating the plights of the people during this trying period of the global pandemic despite the fact that the state is yet to record any case of the virus.

He noted that the prompt payment of salaries and allowances to the civil servant for the month of March is a pointer to the fact that the state government cares for the people to alleviate their suffering as the pandemic persist.

He said people’s cooperation with the government is essential during this period which he noted remained a great sacrifice towards curtailing the spread of the deadly virus in the state.

He noted that it has become imperative for the people of the state to adhere strictly to the health protocols in place considering the situation at hand, stressing that the warning becomes necessary since 7 out of the 10 states including the FCT sharing boundaries with Kogi State already have recorded cases of persons infected with the virus.

He commended the State Government through the State Committee on Covid-19 headed by the Deputy Governor, HE, Chief Edward David Onoja for their proactiveness in stepping up the tides in their preparedness against the virus by sensitising the people on the need to observe the health protocols as laid down by WHO.

He urged residents to continue to maintain social distancing of one to two meters, promote person hygiene, regular washing of hands, use of hand sanitizer etc, praying that God will not allow the State to witness the pandemic before it is finally rooted out of Nigeria.
