What you need to take note of after you have been admitted.
Your roommate may either Affect your Academics works Positively or Negatively, Chose wisely.
Staying Off-campus is sweet but is not easy, you must be financially/physically, mentally, psychology, spiritually empowered.
Most of you especially the young girls who have been offered Admission are now posting on all social media platform that they need a roommate, “I need roommates” “please I need somebody to pair with”. Without knowing some of the challenges behind roommates, i’m not saying having a roommate is bad but, have you use the rigorous processes to choose your own roommate? especially some of you girls who doesn’t think or ignore things like guys. There are some challenges you stand to face when u have roommates, especially if they are more than 2 and just little benefit of roommate.
Questions of the day
Who is your roommate, is she a lesbian? Is he/she a cultist?
Is he or she a God fearing human being?
A situation were your roommate don’t know how to cook, He/she is too dirty, He/she don’t sweep neither keep the house neat, He/she always pack all her friends to finish our food and these is not the first time, look at, all her clothes she scatter everywhere, i am tired of arranging, imagine I have cook for 8times she haven’t smell the kitchen and anytime she comes back she will eat, am i her house maid!? her boyfriend/girlfriend visit all the time no privacy am tired of that girl, she isn’t contributing in anyway. she is not even a good motivator she don’t read her books all she knows is how to jump from one club to another. All this are the gossip and complains in roommates before you know arguments, fight will boost out every day neighbors will be separating. By then no joy again no happiness u will even get tired of school .
Listen to me; the kind of roommate you have can either affect your academic positively or negatively, be very careful.
When you don’t live in peace, there’s no how you can concentrate on your academic work, when there’s peace there’s development in both character and learning, if you are in a place without peace am sure you know what that means, yes I agree with you all that conflict is inevitable but mind you a situation whereby your roommate is a type that doesn’t understand you, quarrel here and there, hmmmm….
If you’re planning to live with roommates during your first year, it’s important to spend quality time defining your ideal roommate. Before you decide on a roommate, you must consider a number of important factors, including temperament and reliability. Before agreeing to share your living space with a roommate, interview him or her and make sure that the two of you can live together comfortably.
Before you can start searching for a roommate, you must decide what you want from your shared living arrangement. For example, some students want a best friend that will go with them to parties and movies, prostitutions etc. Others just want a roommate who will pay the rent and keep to themselves. You may want to live with someone who shares your own interests, or you may want someone with different hobbies to expose yourself to new ideas.
You and your new roommate don’t need to be copies of each other, but it’s important that your temperaments match. If you like excitement, parties and lots of socializing, you won’t enjoy having a roommate whose idea of a good time is a quiet night with a book. Likewise, you’ll only be signing up for misery if your roommate insists on holding an eternal party when you just want quiet.
Living with someone who communicates well is the key to a good roommate relationship. You and your roommate will be responsible for maintaining your apartment or dorm; no one else will step up to clean up your messes or pay your rent. To avoid messy situations, you need to live with someone who is willing to discuss how to share responsibilities. Even if you do have a roommate who communicates well with you, don’t be afraid to confirm information.
Although sharing interests with your roommate is not essential to a lasting living arrangement, it can help bring you closer and give you something to talk about. If you enjoy reading, having a roommate gives you a built-in reading partner. Two roommates who enjoy music together can share favorite bands and help expose each other to new songs. Having a roommate who shares your interests will ensure that you always have at least one partner in crime when you’re looking for something to do.
Its not all about looking for a roommate who is in Year 2-3-4, some of them will use the advantage that there have been here before you to intimidate you.
Having said all this, is left for you to know what you want and go for it.
_But be careful._
