Gunmen who have yet to be identified stormed the Kabba Medium Security Custodial Centre, according to Aregbesola.

“During the attack, the NCoS security officers on duty, which included 15 soldiers, 10 police officers, and 10 armed guards, fought valiantly to repel the onslaught. “At the time of the incident, the Kabba Custodial prison housed 294 convicts, many of whom escaped after the gunmen used explosives to damage three sides of the surrounding fence. However, there are still 28 inmates who haven’t been released. As of this morning, several people had willingly returned to the facility.

“The Nigeria Correctional Service Controller General, Haliru Nababa, is currently monitoring the issue. A tour of the facility is also underway, according to the statement.

According to Aregbesola, the crisis response center has been activated, and a special taskforce has been deployed to recapture fugitive inmates, while an inter-agency security task force is on the hunt for the gunmen who stormed the facility.

He urged the public to be calm because the situation was under control.

Nigeria’s security forces will find and bring the attackers to justice, according to the Minister of Interior.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to reclaim them. We’ve also alerted INTERPOL with their information in case any of them tries to flee beyond our borders.

“We urge the people, especially the communities around the custodial facility, to be vigilant and report any strange and suspicious persons or activities to the nearest law enforcement agency.

“To the fleeing inmates, escaping from lawful custody is a serious criminal offence. Law enforcement agencies and citizens are lawfully empowered to use all necessary means to arrest and bring you to justice. You should therefore know what you are up against. You will however be eligible for mitigation if you wilfully surrender yourselves at the nearest law enforcement office.
