The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has been accused of rigging the state’s recently ended councillorship elections by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Deji Doherty, the chairman of the party’s Lagos branch, stated in a statement seen by Politics Nigeria that the polls were rigged to favor the APC at the expense of other parties.
According to the PDP chairman, the APC did not perform as expected based on the preliminary poll results.
As a result, Doherty stated that the PDP will not recognize any election outcome.
“I take this opportunity to announce unequivocally that any result published by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) is false and unacceptable to the PDP in Lagos State,” the statement stated.
“We reject any outcome that has been or will be revealed, and we hereby indicate that we will make a decision on our future course of action after collating our results and consulting with our lawyers.
“As a party who are the pioneers of democracy in the country, we believe it is in the best interest of our youths and law-abiding citizens of the state to seek redress legally rather than lock horns with the ruling party in mobilising thugs to shed blood in protecting our votes.
“We believe our success at the council elections is not worth the blood of any youth in the state.
“This desperation by the APC created a wave of crisis throughout the state especially in Oshodi, Isolo, Agege, Alimosho, Eti Osa, Ojo, Ajeromi Ifelodun, Mushin, Badagry, Ikorodu and a couple of other local governments and local council development areas.
“These councils among many others experienced full-blown over-voting, ballot snatching, and LASIEC collaboration with APC agents to remove sensitive voting materials out of the councils.” Continue Reading
