John Mikel Obi, the former captain of the Super Eagles, has extended his contract with Championship side Stoke City.
The club announced that they had reached an agreement with the former Chelsea midfielder to keep him for another year.
A statement on the club website reads, “Contract extensions have been activated to retain the services of defender James Chester and midfielder John Obi Mikel.”
The 34-year-old, who joined the Potters last summer after leaving Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig, is scheduled to stay at the Bet 365 stadium until 2022.
Mikel was one of the most significant players for the Potters in the 2020/21 season, appearing 41 times.
