On Monday evening, Palestine appealed to the international community to intervene immediately to avoid Israel’s aggression against the Gaza Strip.

Ibrahim Melhem, a spokesman for the Palestinian government, told Anadolu Agency that the Palestinian government is closely monitoring “the unacceptable Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip” and has requested “immediate and urgent international action to stop the Israeli mass killings.”

Melhem blasted Israel’s cruel and inhuman violence, describing it as a “thirst for murder” by the Jewish state.

“The international community and human rights organizations must condemn Israeli violence and racism in the Palestinian Territories,” Melhem said, adding that Palestinians are only fighting to keep their homes.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 24 Palestinians were martyred in the Gaza Strip on Monday evening, including nine children, and more than 103 others were wounded.

The Israeli army said it attacked Hamas targets in Gaza, as well as eight Hamas activists.

Around 60 rockets were fired by Palestinian resistance groups, seven of which hit Jerusalem, with the rest hitting Ashkilon, Sderot, and settlements along the Gaza Strip.

The decision was made in reaction to Israeli attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the expulsion of Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem.

According to the Israeli army, an Israeli was also injured when his car was hit by an anti-tank missile near the Gaza Strip.

The Joint Chamber of Palestinian Resistance Factions in Gaza had given Israel until Monday evening to withdraw its soldiers from the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, as well as to release the detainees.

At least 334 Palestinians were wounded on Monday, according to the Palestine Red Crescent, as Israeli forces fired rubber-coated bullets, tear gas, and stun grenades at Palestinians who were on the lookout for potential raids by extremist Jews.

Tensions have been high in the Sheikh Jarrah region since last week, when Israeli settlers descended after an Israeli court ordered Palestinian families to be evicted.

Israeli forces have attacked Palestinians demonstrating in solidarity with the people of Sheikh Jarrah.
Hundreds of demonstrators have been injured as a result of the incident.

During the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, Israel invaded East Jerusalem and annexed the entire city in 1980, a development that has never been accepted by the international community.
